The Fairbanks Array
Each of the four sites has a Chaparral microphone sensor with a noise reducing array of "soaker" hoses. The microphone outputs are digitized at 100 samples/sec and telemetered to the Geophysical Institute where the data are collected and archived. Over 2 TB of data have been collected since the array was installed. The data are under review and examples of the signals we have discovered are shown in the signal archive.
Site Coordinates, relative to APEX
Transition to IMS IS53 During the summer of 2002 we plan to upgrade the array to eight microphones arranged in a pattern in which five microphones are placed in an outer pentagonal array with approximately 1 kilometer spacing and three microphones placed near the center of the pentagon in a small triangular array with spacing on the order of 100 meters. At the same time we will install Geotech Inc. digitizers and data recording computers that will automatically archive the data as well as transmit the data via a secure link to the national and international data centers.
Data are to be transmitted to the International Data Center (IDC) in Vienna, Austria via a GCI/VSAT satellite link.
