This course presents an introduction to thermodynamics based upon the concepts of classical and quantum statistical mechanics. The principal topics include the First and Second Laws along with the concepts of entropy, thermodynamic potentials, the heat capacity of solids, phase equilibria, black-body radiation and the characterics of a perfect gas.

Prerequisites: Phys 211, 212, Phys 301 or permission of instructor.
