This is a collection of random coin facts that I think you will find useful when evaluating that coin loot you find out there. If you would like to see other information included, just let me know. I am always ready to improve this site. At this time I am only including information on American coins. Much more detailed information such as exact silver alloy composition is available through the Red Book by R. S. Yeoman.
Tokens are also valuable finds. Be sure to keep them too. The best resource for Alaskan Tokens is a book by the name of "Alaska Tokens" by Ronald J. Benice.
Need a source for Coin values?
Now that you found what you think is a valuable coin you need to find out what it's worth. Here's a couple of sites to help you with that chore.
- American Coin Online is probably the best coin information source on the Net. Helps identify coins, lots of pictures. It is my personal favorite.
- Coin Universe is a very useful site. I highly recommend it. Only problem is a large screen is almost necessary on this site.
- ANACS is an organization that can authenticate your coin. If you find a rare coin, you will need to get it authenticated. Make sure it isn't a fake before you spend all the money you think you will get from selling it.
