The GI Computer Resource Center (CRC) perform system backups. The CRC serves all customers, including those in IARC. Why back up? Backups are easy. The potential for data loss due to hardware failure in your computer certainly exists. Although a hard drive can be expected to last 3 years or more, some develop problems sooner, sometimes a lot sooner. Various software, including your operating system, also have a habit of going south when they feel like it. Backups are automatic once the client is installed on your machine, and installing the client takes no more than 10 minutes. The CRC can back up Windows clients, Mac clients, and Linux/Unix clients. The CRC strives to back up all clients on a nightly basis 5 nights a week Mon-Fri. We will maintain an archive of backups for 3 months. There is a nominal monthly charge for this backup service.
