Neal B. Brown, Alaska Space Grant Program Director and Professor of Physics; Washington State University, ‘61 B.S.; University of Alaska, ‘66 M.S. Brown has participated in various upper atmospheric studies involving noctilucent clouds and near-infrared spectroscopy of aurora and airglow using rockets, balloons and ground based observations. He served as director of the Poker Flat Research Range from 1971-89 and the Alaska Space Grant Program from 2003 - 08. Brown continues to be involved in educational outreach, communicating the role research plays in society. Brown developed and ran the Alaska Space Academy for teacher training and middle-school student learning, and the educational website: www.alaskascience.com.
He remains actively involved in space science education outreach efforts.
Brown served as a STEP Science Instructor in 2006, when the featured topic was Space Physics.
